I sent a folder but my recipient received a compressed file instead

YouSendIt Express is available for free download and also provides faster upload speeds as well as resumable uploads in case your network connection drops.

YouSendIt Express supports the sending of folders, in addition to individual files. When a folder is added to the upload list, it will be automatically compressed (zipped) into a single archive before it is sent. The name of the compressed file will be the same as the folder name, with a .zip extension. Your recipient will be required to uncompress (unzip) the archive after downloading it, in order to extract the original folder.

Multiple Folders: If multiple folders are added to the upload list, each will be compressed individually before sending. However, if the Compress files into a zip file option checkbox is selected, all files and folders in the upload list will be compressed into a single zip file, whose name will be the same as the first file/folder specified in the upload list.

Steps to upload folders using YouSendIt Express:

  1. Start YouSendIt Express.
  2. Click the Send option.
  3. Click Add Folder button and browse to find the folder(s) you wish to send. The original folders will remain on your computer, only a copy will be sent.
  4. Click OK.
  5. (Optional): You can also drag-and-drop folders directly onto YouSendIt Express to include them.
  6. Selecting Compress files into a zip file is optional, since folders are automatically zipped before sending. See note about Multiple Folders above.
  7. Address your message and click the Send It button.

Note: Lite users are not allowed to send folders, this is a feature of our paid accounts only (Pro, Business Plus, or Corporate Suite).

The YouSendIt Plug-in for Outlook can also be used to upload folders.
